Vivienne and I had such a successful day at WH Smiths Wimbledon that they invited me back for another half day session on the Sunday! Delighted to tell you we sold 79 copies of The Love Detective, a feat the WH Smiths managers said was quite unheard of! They kindly emailed some other branches so I have been booked at their Wimbledon store and am hopeful to be booked in at more as Christmas approaches. What was especially lovely was a lady who bought The Love Detective on Saturday saw me on Sunday and came in the shop to tell me she was on chapter 10 and absolutely loving it. Really did make my day!

My darling actor sister Claire and I read extracts from The Love Detective and in conversation and it was a HUGE success! We sold out of books! 37 people attended.
My sister, actor Claire Dyson and I acted out some of the highly comedic extracts from the novel (I played Clarry and Claire played Flan) – the result was much laughter and exchanges with the audience.
You can’t beat ice-cold prosecco in delicate champagne flutes served with a flourish by two lovely waitresses wearing The Love Detective sky-blue baseball caps. The delicious fresh canapes were a treat too! All enjoyed along with the scent of beautiful fresh freesias in vintage blue vases.
Very lively Q & A session. I was asked not simply about the process of writing my novel but about my feelings whilst working on it and afterwards seeing it for the first time in print.
Huge age range – youngest person present was 18 years old and the oldest was 83 – talk about intergenerational! A particular pleasure to me given that my heroine Clarry is 26 and her side-kick, Flan, is 70.
One lady was so immersed in the drama that she’d forgotten she still had her champagne flute in her hand and it crashed to the floor! Another woman said to me that she was so caught up in the story as I was reading a particularly dramatic suspenseful section of the novel that she didn’t want me to stop!
To be supported not just by friends and family but by the strangers who came and who enjoyed themselves so much that they bought more than one copy of the novel.
As I signed the last copy the realization hit me that now The Love Detective has a life of its own. Copies of my novel will be on someone’s bedside cabinet, in someone’s sitting room open on the table beside a glass of wine, in someone’s handbag as they get on the train to work – and my hope for all those that read my novel is that it offers a brief escape from the day-to-day stresses of life and a chance for the spirit to revive and feel refreshed.

Great 3 days signing copies of The Love Detective at WH Smith Kingston. I met a very pleasant middle-aged belly-dancer, two lovely girls who had just started the Bananarama Reading Group, a very elegant lady who looked just like my character Flan and an astrophysicist! One woman came up to me and told me that her Book Club are reading The Love Detective in January! There was a stressful 5 minutes when I joined the hunt for a missing child. Thankfully he was found safe and well in a corner playing with some lego. Much relief all around!
